Plotting YA and Middle Grade Books
Emily Lloyd-Jones will cover the basics of how to use emotional beats to plot a young adult or middle grade book. From the opening chapter to the climatic ending, a character's emotional journey is one of the most important aspects of writing. By outlining this beforehand, an author can more effectively create a gripping and compelling story.

KATHERINE BROWN RECEIVES WMC’S JACK LONDON AWARD for her years of service to our club.
For the Spring 2024 semester (January 22-May 24), the Coast Center will offer two sections of English 503: Creative Writing for Older Adults. Vincent Poturica will be teaching English 503 (0053) from 12:30-3:20 p.m. on Wednesdays, and Molly Dwyer will be teaching English 503 (0019) from 9-11:50 a.m. on Tuesdays. English 503 costs only $12!
During Spring 2024, Vincent will also be teaching English 210 (0021): Creative Writing and English 212 (0020): Intermediate Creative Writing from 12:30-3:20 p.m. on Wednesdays. Each of these courses costs $153 (without financial aid). All voices to be heard! Plays can be in English or Spanish. No fee for submission nor cash award if your play is chosen; all actors and directors give their time free of charge. WHY WE HAVE A DONATION JAR
WMC is committed to keeping our membership renewal fee low. Almost half of our dues go to the state club, and expenses have increased. We no longer have a free space to meet. In order to attract quality speakers, we provide them with a stipend to cover travel costs, a stipend we raised post-COVID. Your donation helps WMC continue to offer quality programs. MEMBER SURVEY Thanks to everyone who participated in our member survey. The prize of a free membership went to Zelda Zuniga. SCHOLASTIC ART AND WRITING CONTEST We have recruited 22 judges and 5 backup judges for this effort. Thanks to everyone who agreed to participate. Judging begins December 15 and ends January 9, hopefully ending with 2,500 additional dollars in the WMC's coffers. Questions? contact: [email protected]
