Participation is open to any WMC member in good standing. What it is: Writers are anonymously paired to create either a story or poem (genre decided upon entering). One writer starts (one page maximum), one finishes (one page maximum), and pairs are revealed at the May 19th meeting when the finished pieces are read. Works will be posted on the website after the event. Commencing March 7, 2016 - 8 classes for $64 Tuesday 3:30 to 5pm | Tuesday 6 to 7:30pm | Thursday 6 to 7:30pm If you miss a class, switch to one of the other times to make it up. Please do not just turn up at the class you want to join because they fill. Instead, email Karen Green at [email protected] with the time you are interested in attending. It is a no pressure class for any level of writer, concentrating on unique prompts and exercises to trigger creativity. Most exercises last about ten minutes, there is easy discussion for a minute or so after each one and then another exercise is set. Karen has conducted these classes at university and in the community for four years in the UK, and usually had a waiting lists and very good repeat sign-up rate. PUBLISHING STRATEGIES - The Many Paths to Publishing • Ginny Rorby talked about the traditional publishing route of her five books and self-publishing e-books. • Sharon Bowers talked about the Kickstarter route for publishing and her process in drawing and writing her graphic novel Amazed and Elated, Depressed and Deflated • Katy Pye spoke on self-publishing, her process, and success of her novel Elizabeth's Landing. • Amie McGee addressed what she’s learned from working at Cypress House • Susan Bono had great information about the value of starting a small press such as her Tiny Lights: A Journal of Personal Narrative and the value of writers becoming part of the small press community. • Henri Bensussen discussed how her poetry chapbook Earning Colors came to be published by Finishing Line Press last year, and the value of submitting work to writing contests, in general. For WMC members in good standing, follow submission rules below, and apply by March 15. Cannot be a member of WMC board or a scholarship judge. Apply to MCWC, and let them know you are also applying for WMC scholarship, but don't send payment. If you win, we’ll then make check directly to MCWC. Send us no more than ten pages of a piece, or no more than five poems, double-spaced, no smaller than 12 pt. font. DON’T put your name on the piece, only the piece title with the pagination. Entries are judged blind. Send as an attachment to email. Send Katherine Brown, [email protected], an email with the cover information—your name, piece title, genre, contact information. MENDOCINO BRANCH A REMINDER FOR ADVERTISING
Promote your book or services to 2,000 readers. The first 2016 issue of the new electronic CWC Bulletin will be coming out in February. The next deadline for submitting advertising is July 29, 2016. This is a way for CWC members, authors, and guest speakers to reach a large targeted audience of writers in a state-wide publication that goes out to nearly 2,000 writers.
