FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC LISA LOCASCIO "Lying and Telling the Truth at the same time: Writing From Life" Thursday, August 15th, 6:00 p.m. Few of us can avoid the allure of feeding our writing with content from our lives. Whether we consciously or unconsciously we import people, dialogue, settings or plots from our lived experience into our work, it is an unavoidable truth that our lives inform our creative output. How does one meaningfully--and ethically--mediate between the lived and the felt? How can we use our knowledge of our lives to create vibrant, shimmering poetry, fiction, and nonfiction? In this talk, we will explore examples of writers pulling from their lives and consider how we might learn from their triumphs and sorrows. New Class at Mendocino College

He had previously served as Playwright-in-Residence for four years at Ursinus College outside Philadelphia. Five Consecutive Saturdays September 7, 14, 21, 28, and October 5 10:00 a.m. to noon Community Center of Mendocino This course is open to all writers of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and memoir as well as playwrights because we will cover the basics of character development, dialogue, conflict, and plot common to all genres of writing. In addition, playwriting uniquely teaches a writer to think visually and theatrically to emotionally connect with an audience. No previous playwriting experience is required and we will cover the basics so that each student completes an original ten minute play in class. At our final meeting we will invite the public to see these plays produced onstage. — Philip Zwerling Register: https://mendocinotheatre.tix.com/Event.aspx?EventCode=1123292. The course is $80

HARRIET GLEESON
Dear friends, I have developed a series of artworks on the theme of Time to celebrate my 80th birthday. I would be happy if you could join me in the observance by viewing the works. I will be guest artist for the month of July at the Artist’s Co-op Gallery of Mendocino at the corner of Kasten and Albion streets. The opening is Saturday, 13th July, and the artwork will be up for the month. If you can’t make it to the Co-op, there is always the possibility of a private showing at "Galleria Gleechinn" in The Woods, our home. To those of you who live too far away to visit either, say a prayer for me at 80. Love, Harriet WMC member Ron Morita's story "The Cow in the Driveway" will appear in the June 19 issue of the Anderson Valley Advertiser. Beginning as a news story about the Rancho Navarro cannabis controversy, it concludes with a humorous vignette about the superfluousness of lawyers.
