On the Fort Bragg campus, Tuesdays from 2:30 to 4:00 in room 112 Guest speakers every other week, with roundtable discussions between. December 8th Round Table Discussion. Tools, Contacts, Information. A chance to share knowledge and tips, helpful for staying(or getting)on track. December 15, Molly Dwyer will speak on her experience publishing through Lost Coast Press, a fiction imprint of Cypress House. Then we will break until mid-January. MAKING THE MOST OF CONFLICT
WORKSHOP BY WRITER JEAN HEGLAND ------ JANUARY 9TH 9:00 a.m. to noon ------ Mendocino College Fort Bragg Center, 1211 Del Mar Drive, Fort Bragg, CA 95437 Almost every successful story is fueled by conflict. This workshop will use brief lectures, lively discussions, and supportive writing exercises to explore how writers of fiction and memoir can take full advantage of the opportunities for storytelling, plot formation, and character development that conflict provides. The Saturday workshop is $25 for California Writers Club members (any branch) and $35 for non-members. Open to all. Writers of the Mendocino Coast, Mendocino College, and Gallery Bookstore are co-sponsors. Jean will also be reading at Gallery Bookstore on Friday, January 8th at 6:30pm. NO LIFE BUT IN THINGS

OCTOBER 20TH ARTS COUNCIL OF MENDOCINO AWARDED GINNY RORBY as ARTIST, THE 2015 ARTS CHAMPION AWARD
Member Ginny Rorby, winner of the Arts Champion award in the Artist category, is the author of How to Speak Dolphin, Hurt Go Happy (which won an American Library Association award for books featuring special-needs children) and other books exploring interactions between humans and animals, some of them set on the Mendocino coast. Ginny has been active in several coastal organizations including the Mendocino Coast Audubon Society, the Point Cabrillo Light Station, and as past director and longtime board member of the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference. Ginny has also sponsored a scholarship to the annual Writers Conference in support of those writing for young people on topics of literary merit and social significance. According to one nominator, “Ginny is an activist in the best sense of that word, as well as a community leader and role model for positive action.” Another nominator said, “She has been a mentor to countless emerging writers. Ginny is a stellar human being.”
