Mendocino Hotel - Free and Open To The Public
Thursday, November 17th, 6:00 p.m. “Writing to History and Culture: Using the Tools of the Present to Illuminate the Past” Poet Indigo Moor will discuss essential elements inherent to framing History and Culture and balancing image to statement. Indigo Moor is a poet, playwright, and author. His second book of poetry, Through the Stonecutter’s Window, won Northwestern University Press’s Cave Canem prize. His first book, Tap-Root, was published as part of Main Street Rag’s Editor’s Select Poetry Series. Three of his short plays, Harvest, Shuffling, and The Red and Yellow Quartet debuted at the 60 Million Plus Theatre’s Spring Playwright’s festival. His stageplay, Live! at the Excelsior, was a finalist for the Images Theatre Playwright Award and is being made into a full length film. A graduate of the Stonecoast MFA Program—where he studied poetry, fiction, and scriptwriting—Indigo is also a graduate member of the Artist's Residency Institute for Teaching Artists and former Vice President of the Sacramento Poetry Center. Winner of the 2005 Vesle Fenstermaker Prize for Emerging Writers, a 2009 Pushcart Prize nominee, and 2008 Jack Kerouac Poetry contest, Indigo's other honors include: finalist finishes for the T.S. Eliot Prize, Crab Orchard First Book Prize, Saturnalia First Book Award, Naomi Long Madgett Book Award, and WordWorks Prize. ANNOUNCING THE 2016 CWC LITERARY REVIEW
CWC members should have received the 2016 edition of the CWC Literary Review, an anthology published yearly containing stories, essays, and poetry written by club members. The fifth Review, produced by CWC volunteers, is published by the Central Board, providing an opportunity for member-authors this year to be read by well over two-thousand pairs of eyes.
The submission window for the 2017 issue opened on September 1 this year, 2016 and submission will be accepted through November 30. Submission guidelines are on the club's website, www.calwriters.org. Members may submit one or two items for $10. WRITING WORKSHOP
"The Write Stuff" course on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., started on November 1st, and continues on November 15th and 29th, then December 6th and 13th. Brad Radnitz and his actor-teacher wife Jeannine Riley are conducting the two-hour classes. Cost of the full series was $175, and the individual sessions are $40 if space is available. Mr. Radnitz has been a Hollywood writer, producer and story executive on well known films and TV classics. The workshops will include samples of the various styles and techniques of poetry writing, displays of published works, in-session writing exercises along with readings and discussions of individual works produced during the workshops.
