2022 Smatch-Up Rules:
Participation is open to any WMC member in good standing.
What it is
Writers are anonymously paired to create either a story or poem (genre decided upon entering). One writer starts (one page maximum), one finishes (one page maximum), and pairs are revealed at the June 19, 2022, Zoom meeting when the finished pieces are read. Works will be posted on the website after the event.
To enter
Send an e-mail to Katherine Brown: [email protected] by midnight March 31, 2022 and designate
a) Fiction or a Poem or Either for genre
b) Starter or Finisher or No Preference for your half
Do not send any work. Merely a request to enter with genre and whether starter or finisher.
Pay close attention to dates below and ensure you can meet the deadlines before you choose to be a finisher or starter.
Ten Starters and Ten Finishers will be chosen- first come, first serve
Theme and Rules
The 2022 theme is “One Monday in October.” You can apply the theme loosely and go anywhere with it.
Each writer only gets one page maximum. The page can be single or double-spaced, must be in12 point font minimum and must use one inch margins.
Deadlines
You will be contacted by midnight April 2nd indicating whether you are a starter or finisher.
Starters:
Have the month of April to produce the start of a piece based on theme “One Monday in October.”
They will e-mail their finished piece to Katherine Brown at [email protected]. Starters may use a working title, but finishers get to officially title the piece.
Plan to read your half of the piece on June 19th, 3pm, via zoom.
Starters, no revisions after the piece is sent to Katherine.
DO NOT PUT YOUR NAME ON THE PIECE.
Finishers:
Have the month of May to produce the end of the piece.
Title it.
Finishers may also do minor edits (spelling or grammar or punctuation) to the starter’s side, but may not change the story or poem developmentally.
They will e-mail their finished piece to Katherine Brown at [email protected].
No need to put your name on it. Katherine will do that when she merges the pieces.
