2019 SMATCH-UP RULES
Participation is open to any WMC member in good standing, but act quickly, the participant count is capped at 20.
WHAT IT IS
Writers are anonymously paired to create either a story or poem (genre decided upon entering). One writer starts (one page maximum), one finishes (one page maximum), and pairs are revealed at the April 18, 2019, meeting when the finished pieces are read. Works will be posted on the website after the event.
TO ENTER
Send an e-mail to Katherine Brown: [email protected] by midnight February 2nd and designate
a) Whether you would like to write either Fiction or a Poem or No Preference
b) Whether you would like to be a Starter or Finisher or No Preference
Do not send any work. Merely a request to enter with genre and whether starter or finisher.
Pay close attention to dates below and ensure you can meet the deadlines before you choose to be a finisher or starter.
Participant count will be capped at twenty, so ten starters and ten finishers.

The 2019 theme is “Under the bridge.” You can apply the theme loosely and go anywhere with it.
Each writer only gets one page maximum.
The page can be single or double-spaced, must be in 12 point font and must use one inch margins.

You will be contacted by February 9th indicating whether you are a starter or finisher.

- Starters: Have the period between February 9th and midnight March 7th to produce the start of a piece. They will e-mail their finished piece to Katherine Brown at [email protected]. Starters may use a working title, but finishers get to title the piece. Starters, no revisions accepted after the piece is sent. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- Finishers: Have the period between March 8th and midnight April 8th to produce the end of the piece and to title it. Finishers may also do minor edits (grammar, punctuation) to the starter’s side, but may not change the story or poem developmentally. They will e-mail their finished piece to Katherine Brown at [email protected].
